ECA EIA-616-A Document Information:
Title
Detail Specification for 2 Millimeter, Two-Part Connectors for Use with Printed Boards and Backplanes
Electronic Components Association
Publication Date:
Nov 1, 2002
Scope:
This standard is applicable to modular two-part connectors for
printed wiring boards associated with equipment for
telecommunication or electronic devices using similar techniques.
The standard covers high-density connectors providing modular
contact arrangements with signal contacts, power contacts, and
options for special contacts (high current/coaxial/optical). Both
fixed and free board mounted connectors have module sizes in
multiples of 12 mm. Both are end-to-end stackable without loss of
contact positions.
The objectives of this standard are to establish:
• dimensions of connectors for a metric equipment practice;
the dimensions for height, width, and depth are based on a multiple
grid of 0,5 mm in accordance with IEC Publication 60917-1;
• type designation;
• common features;
• dimensions;
• test program
General data
This standard defines modular two-part connectors, with assessed
quality, for free and fixed boards. The connectors are based on a
multiple grid of 0,5 mm, and configured with contacts spaced with a
2,0 mm pitch. The connectors are available as stackable modules and
multimodules with n x 12 mm lengths and in 4 or more row
configurations, with coding and optional special contacts:
- Performance levels: 1, 2, and 3
- Assessment levels: A and G
- Combination of performance levels and assessment levels: 1A,
2A, 2G, and 3A
Recommended method of mounting
A complete onnector consists of one or more connector modules or
multimodules that are mounted stackable to each other, without loss
of contact positions. Free board connector modules are mounted on
the edge of the board and have female contacts with right-angle
solder or press-in terminations.
Fixed board connector modules are mounted on the backplane and
have male contacts with straight solder or press-in terminations.
They have optional solderless wrap or rear plug-up
possibilities.
Information on the availability of components qualified to this
standard is given in the qualified product list.
Minimum and maximum number of contact cavities
The connector modules and multimodules provide four or more
rows. Cavities for signal contacts can be fully or partially
loaded. Cavities with power contacts are normally fully loaded.
The connector modules featuring cavities for special contacts
are single-row, that can be individually loaded.
The possible number of contacts per connector module and
multimodule.
