Scope:
Compartments
A compartment, for the purposes of this standard, shall be a space that is completely enclosed by walls and a ceiling.
A compartment enclosure shall be permitted to have openings in walls, provided the openings have a minimum lintel depth of 8 in. (203 mm) from the ceiling.
