Scope:
This sectional specification is applicable to discrete contact
components of use in direct current and analog applications for
frequencies below 3 MHz and in digital applications requiring
higher data rate frequencies. This sectional specification shall be
used in conjunction with the following two specifications:
EIA-7000000 Generic Specification for Electronic &
Electrical Connectors of Certified Quality (for Frequencies
Essentially Below 3 MHz )
EIA-364 Electrical Connector Test Procedures Including
Environmental Classifications
This specification includes, but is not necessarily limited to,
the following types of contacts:
a) used as discrete standalone contact in printed circuit boards
or as removable/replaceable contacts in connectors to be terminated
to printed circuit boards.
b) used as removable/replaceable contacts in circular
connectors.
c) used as removable/replaceable contacts in rectangular
connectors.
The sectional specification shall be used in conjunction with
detail specifications covering specific contacts or families of
contacts. The detail specifications shall not degrade the
requirements of the sectional or generic specifications.
Objective
The objective of this specification is to:
a) Define a uniform numbering system to be used for all contacts
standardized by the EIA.
b) Define a uniform quality assessment system.
c) Define a uniform qualification test sequences.
d) Provide consistency for connectors by specifying terminology,
symbols, test methods, and other necessary information.
