Title
Detail Specification for the Interface of the 1.27 mm Pitch, Ribbon Contact (Leaf Spring), Trapezoidal Shaped, Self-Locking I/O Connector
Electronic Components Association
Publication Date:
Nov 1, 1997
Scope:
This specification covers rectangular self-locking connectors
with ribbon style (leaf spring) connector contacts on 1.27 mm
(0.050 in) contact spacing. Connector polarization is achieved by
the trapezoidal configuration of the insulator. The straight or
right-angled receptacle header (fixed connectors) with contacts is
soldered to the printed board. The plug (fiee connector) with
contacts uses the insulation displacement or compression type of
termination for round cable with 0.09 mm2 (28 AWG) discrete solid
or stranded conductors. It is recommended that the user have their
cable evaluated by the connector manufacturer for their specific
application. The specification covers the following:
1) sizes 20 and 26;
2) self-locking hardware only;
3) over-molding to be shown only as an application note with
maximum dimensions only;
4) cable connectors, straight and right angle headers are to be
covered;
5) headers to be suited for soldering to single, as well as
double-sided printed boards.
The application of this range of connectors includes use for
signals in telecommunication and information processing equipment
and systems, and other electronic devices employing similar
techniques.
