New AEI Committee to Develop C2P Electrical Installation Practices
December 22, 2004
RESTON, Va.—The Architectural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers established a committee to develop a new standard for performance requirements for electrical system architectures and methods within critical facilities.
The standard, Recommended Electrical Installation Practices for Control, Communication and Power (C2P) for Critical Facilities, will cover performance requirements resulting from additional equipment loadings, such as atmosphere segregation and hazardous-agent monitoring systems, as well as changes to blast and shock considerations. It will also cover constraints not previously considered in the design of electrical systems serving building mission and life-safety systems. Current standards only address electrical system architectures and environmental methods liable for conventional damages such as fire damage resulting from the normal fuel loading of building equipment and furnishings.
The effort to establish new performance requirements for electric-dependent systems within critical buildings resulted from concerns stemming from the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
Applications are being accepted for appointments to the new committee. To request an application, contact Eileen Boeing, ASCE standards coordinator, at eboeing@asce.org or (703) 295-6338.
