ASHRAE Seeks Risk Management Guideline Input
December 22, 2005
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers Inc. (ASHRAE) will solicit input on building risk management at its January 2006 conference. Specifically, the group will call for suggestions on the proposed Guideline 29P - Guideline for Risk Management of Public Health and Safety in Buildings.
ASHRAE will seek guidance on everything from practical evaluation, design and implementation of the proposed guideline to how homeland security can be improved through hybrid 100% outside air systems.
Guideline 29P will cover in-building incidents relating to fire, seismic events, chemical and biological releases, blast and other extraordinary hazards. The guideline also will focus on building performance and how it affects the health and safety of its occupants. The topics to be covered at the conference include egress, chemical, biological and radiological protection, fire protection, smoke removal, filtration, air quality and building envelope.
One seminar at the conference will address design and operation of HVAC&R and related support systems designed to protect tenants from chemical-biological warfare (CBW).
The conference will be held Jan. 21-25 in Chicago.
