The British Standards Institution (BSI) published British Standard (BS) 5268-3: 2006 - Structural Use of Timber - Code of Practice for Trussed Rafter Roofs.

The Timber Research and Development Association (TRADA) is making the standard available for purchase.

BS 5268-3: 2006 covers the design, fabrication and use of trussed rafters for roof and provides recommendations on the strength grades of timbers used.

The standard also is designed to offer guidance on:

  • Structural analysis methods.
  • Engineering design criteria and performance requirements for roof bracing.
  • Production requirements for truss manufacture.

In addition, based on extensive tests, BS 5268-3: 2006 details the maximum spans for two common truss configurations for a range of member sizes and roof pitches.
