The European Building Automation and Controls Association (eu.bac) developed a scheme for assessing and certifying performance and reliability of building environmental controls.
The eu.bac certification scheme comes at a time when different EU-directives and national regulations requiring better energy performance in buildings are being implemented.
The first product group covered in the scheme is individual zone controllers.
As part of its commitment to help manufacturers comply with current regulations, BSRIA Test Laboratory is working in partnership with the U.K. certification body ASTA BEAB Certification Services, eu.bac and other European organizations to support the scheme.
For its part, BSRIA will offer up its test facilities and expertise to enable manufacturers to obtain eu.bac certification. On the basis of BSRIA test reports, ASTA BEAB will issue certification.
According to BSRIA, the independent tests, which include thermal comfort tests, economy mode and frost-free mode tests, are designed to:
- Confirm a product's effectiveness.
- Provide further reassurance to specifiers and clients that a certified product will perform as intended.
The eu.bac certification will be provided on "individual zone controllers" for the following application systems:
- Heating (radiators).
- Water floor heating.
- Fan coil unit (2 or 4 pipes).
- Variable air volume (VAV).
- Chilled ceiling.
- Electric convectors.
- Electrically heated floors and ceilings.
