A newly built modular home in Texas was found to pass muster with the Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) for resistance to natural disasters.
Coastal Components subsidiary Crown Team Texas built the hurricane-resistant modular homes on pilings in its new coastal community, Audubon Village.
IBHS created the "Fortified…for safer living" construction program to ensure a home meets specific design, construction and landscaping criteria to increase its overall resistance to natural hazards, such as hurricane winds and flood waters, based on its location.
According to IBHS, the Texas-based modular home is the first in the U.S. to meet the requirements of its program.
