The International Code Council (ICC) Board for International Professional Standards (BIPS) approved development of a national certification for Residential Plans Examiners.
The Residential Plans Examiner certification will be developed by a group of residential planning experts and will be available by late 2007.
"This new certification is especially important for Gulf Coast states that are continuing one of the nation's largest reconstruction efforts in U.S. history following the destruction left by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita," said ICC CEO Rick Weiland.
To develop the certification, the ICC is creating an examination development committee made up of members that must be actively working as residential plans examiners.
Individuals who are interested in serving can fill out an application online at http://www.iccsafe.org/certification/edc/call-2007RPE.html, or call 1-888-ICC-SAFE (422-7233), ext. 5287. Applications must be submitted by Dec. 31.
More information about the ICC certification program is available on the ICC web site at http://www.iccsafe.org/certification/.
