The International Code Council (ICC) will present the When Disaster Strikes Institute, Oct. 28-29, in Birmingham, Ala., to train building officials, building and residential inspectors, plans examiners, architects and engineers to identify hazards and evaluate sites in the aftermath of disasters such as hurricanes, floods, wildfires and earthquakes.
The program teaches building safety professionals skills to become a disaster response inspector and prepare for future disasters.
Participants will learn how to prepare for mobilization, conduct site inspections, estimate damage and identify buildings made uninhabitable by a catastrophic event.
According to ICC, communities will benefit from the institute by preparing their personnel to become part of a nationwide multihazard group of disaster response inspectors.
Attendees can accrue continuing education units (CEUs) and learning units (LUs), which may fulfill licensing requirements in their state.
